Warlords,

today it’s all about features!

SoL contains many strategical features which are important in the battles and it’s time to dive deeper into the mechanics and explain them. So let’s have a closer look together:

Offensive Fire

After reading your comments and feedback on this feature, we have decided to tone it down a bit. Offensive Fire will only be executed 2 times per round and per unit. This limitation is to restore balance and bring the „superiority“ of the archers into equilibrium.

Defensive Fire

If an infantry, cavalry, or siege weapon is attacked and there is a ranged fighter next to the attacked unit, the ranged fighter will provide what is called „Defensive Fire“.

Like the feature „Offensive Fire“, we have decided to tone it down a bit too. Defensive Fire will only be executed 2 times per round and per unit. This limitation is to restore balance and bring the „superiority“ of the archers into equilibrium.

Shield Wall

Certain unit types can absorb damage taken by an adjacent unit. The heavy cavalry of Aglovan’s army, for example, is such a unit. The absorbed value increases with each level and experience increase.

Experience level
– level 1 = 5%
– level 2 = 10%
– level 3 = 15%
– level 4 = 20%
– level 5 = 25%

Level of  unit
– tier1 = 10%
– tier2 = 20%
– tier3 = 25%

The AI units cannot perform a shield wall.

Guardian

Your air units can escort adjacent ground units. If the escorted ground unit is then attacked, the air unit also defends.

If there is more than one flight unit adjacent, they will also defend the attack.

Ambush

In case you march into an unexplored area and place your troops on a field adjacent to an unexplored area, you may run into an ambush. This happens when there is a opponent unit on an adjacent unexplored hex. In this case, your troops will suffer an attack with 50% higher damage they cannot counter.

Ambushed units can not move or fight.

Fallback

If your troops suffer heavy losses and their total health drops below 75%, the troop automatically retreats one hex. If there is no room for retreat, the unit surrenders.
